What is BreathTec?
BreathTec is an internet-based programme to help people with certain long term health conditions which result in breathlessness, such as asthma, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart conditions, interstitial lung disease and serious conditions such as COVID-19.
The course has been co-developed by Dr Karen Heslop-Marshall and Dr Graham Burns who have extensive experience delivering the programme to respiratory patients over many years at a large teaching hospital in the United Kingdom.
The online programme is tailored to your needs and delivered over five sessions. The first session involves a personalised assessment so we can tailor the programme to your needs. Session 2 is about breathlessness and techniques that can help. Session 3 is about staying active. Session 4 is about your mood, how health conditions can impact on it and what to do to stay well. Session 5 is the final session which summarises the progress you have made whilst using BreathTec.
Who can use BreathTec?
BreathTec is suitable for adults who are breathless because of a lung or heart problem or those who have ongoing breathlessness because of COVID-19.
If the cause of your breathlessness is not known, it is important you consult your doctor before embarking on this programme. BreathTec is not able to diagnose any heart or lung condition.
Our services are intended to supplement not replace services offered to you by your GP, Practice Nurse or hospital healthcare team. It is important that you keep your usual health care provider informed about the services you are receiving from us.

How do I make BreathTec accessible to my needs?
Our vision is to make a real difference to as many people’s lives as we can. We have tried to make BreathTec as accessible and as usable as possible. The Recite Me toolbar will allow you to change the way our website looks. You are able to customise the website’s colour scheme as well as texts, font style, size, colour and spacing.
Many people cannot read or write, so reading content online can be difficult. Recite Me can read the words on each page so you can use the website easily.
If English is not your first language, then Recite me can translate our content into over 100 languages to enable you to use our programme.
You can find a quick guide to Recite Me here
